What are Personal Support Sessions?
Personal support sessions are sessions we also like to call Rogerian Listening Sessions. These sessions are based on the psychological philosophy of Carl Rogers, and are meant to be a space that provides what Rogers called active listening. Based on Roger's research, being listened to is a powerful tool for personal change. It's less about the listener and more about the speaker, and is not about giving/receiving advice. Its a space that provides what Rogers called unconditional positive regard, alongside a deep respect and empathy for the person, enabling them to process and understand themselves better, and make the decisions that best support their own personal goals and lives. These sessions can also be helpful to understand one's priorities in organizing spaces in their home/business, if the initial space assesment isn't sufficient to set the priorities for the project. Please note: Lacey is not a licensed professional therapist. These sessions are offered to supplement individuals in their journey to understand themself, their needs and their desires, and in building a life in which an individual feels fully alive.
For more information about Carl Rogers and his approach, we suggest starting with his books Active Listening and Client Centered Therapy.
On what principles is your parenting coaching based?
The principles of a nuture-heavy, relationship-based, non-authoritarian parenting approach are the basic values of Zen's parenting coaching. Some examples of texts and ideologies that are in line with our approach are The Nurture Revolution by Greer Krishenbaum, Hunt, Gather, Parent by Michaeleen Doucleef, the psychological philosophies of Carl Rogers and Erich Fromm, the writings of Maria Montessori, her Montessori schooling principles and the gentle, positive parenting approach.
